Ghouls, goblins, and Gettysburg! You can find it all in this small town in Pennsylvania. October is one of the most popular times to visit. Looking for a kid-friendly, not-too-scary event? There are plenty of those too! Enjoy the views of colorful fall foliage, while hiking the nature trails, or experience the Adams County Crop Hop to make the most of harvest time. National Apple Harvest Festival (South Mountain Fairgrounds; Oct. 1-2, 8-9) – Located in the heart of Pennsylvania Apple country, The National Apple Harvest Festival celebrates the fall season with beautiful handmade crafts from 300+ vendors, delicious food, and jam-packed entertainment. The festival features special attractions ranging from steam engine displays, live music, antique cars, orchard tours, pony rides, tastings, craftsman demonstrations, and so much more!

Pick-Your-Own Apples at Boyer Cellars (Beginning Oct. 1, Mon-Sat 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.: Sun 12 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.) – Attention apple lovers! Boyers’ u-pick apple orchard is open with McIntosh and Jonathan ready for picking and more varieties to come. Price is $1.25 per pound (no entry fee). Sunset Guided Double Decker Bus Tour (Saturdays in October) – Relax and enjoy one of the most beautiful scenes in America as you experience the sun setting over Gettysburg National Military Park and South Mountain. Enjoy a narrated tour by a licensed battlefield guide as the evening winds down. The highlight takes place as the tour concludes with an extended stop to witness the breathtaking sunset.

2022 Fall Harvest Festival at Fields of Adventure (Beginning Oct 1, weekends) – Enjoy all your favorite fall things: corn mazes, pumpkins, homemade apple cider donuts, kettle corn, and SO much more on this amazing 65 acre farm.

Haunted Bus Tours (Beginning Saturdays in October, Time: 7 p.m.) – Journey through The Gettysburg Countryside as your guide entertains you with stories of haunted history and paranormal tales. During this 1-hour and 45-minute journey, you depart the bus at Gettysburg College for strange tales of the unexplained. If you choose to join in this adventure, make reservations early as this popular tour sells out in advance. Some walking is involved during this tour.

Fall Harvest Day at the Historic Daniel Lady Farm (Oct. 15, 22) – Join for a fun day of fall activities and treats down on the farm!

Fall Colors Wagon Ride at Hollabaugh Bros. Fruit Farm & Market (Oct 22) – Come out to enjoy the crisp autumn air with your family aboard the Hollabaugh’s wagon. You will be able to view the gorgeous fall foliage, while our guided wagon tour winds through the beautiful orchards on the farm. And while you are here, stop in the market for apples, fresh baked goods, and all of the fall decorations needed to make your home beautiful!

Gettysburg Halloween Parade (Downtown Gettysburg; Oct. 25 with rain date Oct 27) – Cash prizes in a number of categories includes but is not limited to bands, floats, marching/walking groups, dance/performing groups, individual costumes, and vintage cars. In addition to the parade, there will be a dance party on the Square starting at 5:30 p.m. New this year is a costume contest on the Square at 6 p.m.

Halloween Family Fun at Hollabaugh Bros. Fruit Farm & Market (Oct 29) – Pumpkins, wagon rides, and trick-or-treating, it must be Halloween! We love Halloween on the farm, and can’t wait to share the fun with you. Pick your own pumpkin, paint it, and take a trick-or-treat wagon ride. Come in costume or as you are! Either way, it’s sure to be a ghostly good time. Recommended for ages 3-10.
