With Cupid’s Fruit Kabob Skewers, you get the tanginess of grapefruit mixed with the naturally sweet flavor of watermelon. The mixture of flavors could be compared to the mixed emotions you might get if you were actually shot with Cupid’s arrow!
Cupid’s Fruit Kabob Skewers
My daughters enjoy helping to prepare these snack skewers. The recipe is simple to follow, and it can be done with some adult supervision for only a few steps, such as when slicing is involved.
To begin, slice the entire watermelon into 1-inch thick pieces. To slice safely, place the watermelon on a steady surface. Make sure the cutting board won’t move, and use a serrated knife.
Use each watermelon piece to cut out heart shapes using a small heart cookie cutter. Set the watermelon hearts to the side.
Take the grapefruit, and slice both of them into half-moon wedge shapes. With one of the grapefruits, you will slice them in half one more time to create the pointy arrow shape.
To assemble cupid’s arrow, first place the half moon-shaped grapefruit onto the skewer, and pull it towards the end. Then, add one watermelon heart. Finally, place the small pointy arrow-shaped grapefruit piece on the end.
As an alternative to grapefruit, you can also make this dish with oranges. Blood oranges would add an interesting dark red color, and they might have a more appealing flavor since they aren’t as tart!
These are a healthy side dish to have with breakfast or with a sandwich. Serve on a platter, and enjoy!
