Make an Earth-inspired stop motion movie using Stop Motion Studio. This is a great way to reuse old toys that children might feel they have grown out of, but the toys can become interesting characters in a movie instead of garbage or donations. The software offers a free version, and you can teach yourself how to use it easily. You could also take one of my stop motion animation classes to learn and receive feedback!

My daughter took my American Girl Writing & Acting class to make a movie script and a film with a message about picking up trash. In her own time, she created a research paper about recycling to learn more about the cause she was promoting in her film. Not only was the unit really fun for her to complete, but the movie also ended up placing in a state-wide art competition!

You could enter an environmental art competition too. Look up the theme or challenge in advance, and create art to fit with the theme. You can search for competitions on Film Freeway, or check with your local art league to see if there is a competition nearby.

Remember, you can do Earth Month activities any time of year, not only during April! These activities are great to fit in whenever you can to build environmental awareness year-round.
