One of my daughter’s favorite book series is Diary of a Wimpy Kid. When I told her that she had the chance to meet Jeff Kinney and interview him about his new movie, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, she told me to drop everything if the interview came through for her. Featured today on Enjoying Family Life, I’m sharing the press junket video and more about the movie.

Georgie took a half day of homeschooling from her public school to fit the press screening into her day. It was the most fulfilling experience! Jeff Kinney was incredibly appreciative of her time. He’s great with children. He jumped right in to help make her comfortable in her first solo press event with questions about what her grade in school was and a huge compliment about her being a journalist!

Screening the film, writing interview questions, and going to the press junket taught Georgie about comprehension and questioning, and she worked with Disney PR on visual arts with composition and audio quality. I’d call this a successful first half day of homeschooling, and although she returned to public school with some material to catch up on the next day, I hope she has more fantastic experiences like this in the future! 😊

About Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules

The riotous antics of angst-ridden, disaster-prone middle school student Greg Heffley continue in “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules,” focusing this time around on his complicated relationship with older brother Rodrick. The Characters

BRADY NOON (“The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers”) is the voice of Greg Heffley, a middle-school student who idolizes his teenage older brother and craves his attention. When Rodrick throws a blowout party in the house, Greg realizes he has leverage in their relationship and uses it in a misguided attempt to get closer to his big brother.

HUNTER DILLON (“Deadpool 2”) is back as the voice of Rodrick Heffley, Greg’s older brother who loves to torment him. A spikey-haired high school student who is also a drummer in the rock band Löded Diper, Rodrick decides to throw a party when his parents are out of town and suckers Greg into helping him and making sure his parents don’t find out.

ETHAN WILLIAM CHILDRESS (“mixed-ish”) is the voice of Rowley Jefferson, Greg’s gap-toothed best friend, who is immaturely naïve but has a good heart.

EDWARD ASNER (“Up”) is the voice of Grandpa, the father of Greg’s dad, who occasionally looks after the boys. He resides at Leisure Towers and enjoys board games and watching security footage of his fellow nursing home residents on his television.

CHRIS DIAMANTOPOULOS (“Silicon Valley”) is the voice of Frank Heffley, the easily put-out but well-meaning father.

ERICA CERRA (“Power Rangers”) is the voice of Susan Heffley, the loving but overprotective mother who always finds ways to embarrass Greg. Hoping to bring Greg and Rodrick closer, she creates Mom Bucks as a way to reward her sons for doing chores around the house.

GRACEN NEWTON (“Puppy Dog Pals”) is the voice of Manny, Greg’s 3-year-old younger brother, who is spoiled and is a constant nuisance to Greg.

JIMMY TATRO (“Home Economics”) is the voice of Bill, the lead singer of Löded Diper, whoperforms the original song, “Can You Smell Us Now,” written and produced by Jon Levine, with lyrics by Jeff Kinney.

JEFF KINNEY (Writer/Producer) is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Diary of aWimpy Kid series and the Awesome Friendly Kid series. LUKE CORMICAN’s (Director) numerous animated credits include over 78 episodes of “TeenTitans Go,” on which he served as writer, producer, and director, as well as “The Penguins of Madagascar,” “Brandy and Mr. Whiskers,” “The Buzz on Maggie,” and “Ren and Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon,” among others. Cormican also served as head of story on “Teen Titans go to theMovies.”

JOHN PAESANO (Composer) is a BAFTA-winning, Emmy®-nominated composer with a range of credits that include “The Maze Runner” film trilogy, both of PlayStation’s “Spider-Man” video games, 50 episodes of Marvel’s “Defenders” and “Daredevil” and 100 episodes of the “How to Train Your Dragon” series (for which he won an Annie Award). His recent score for “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels” is a throwback to the sound of the golden age of Hollywood, while Amazon’s “Invincible” features a driving hybrid action score.
