Margot Robbie ‘Barbie’ Movie Photo Released from Mattel Films & Warner Bros.
Mattel Films has revealed an all-new still photo of the ‘Barbie’ movie set to release in July 21, 2023! I’m sharing this news because in the past two years, I have taught over 700 children to make movies with Mattel dolls. Children have tremendous pride in seeing their imagination become reality with the movie they create. With the rising popularity of doll vloggers, doll stop motion moviemakers, and doll photographers on social media, there is a huge demand for a cinematic movie with a compelling storyline featuring these toys.
In the new photo, Margot Robbie is the iconic Barbie doll, and she shares a megawatt smile from behind the wheel of a pink convertible. She wears a blue and white polka dot headband and matching halter top in front of a pink backdrop.
In this star-studded cast, some A-listers include Ryan Gosling (Ken), Kate McKinnon, Will Ferrell, America Ferrera, Michael Cera, and more.
Warner Bros. revealed the new peek at the new live action film through a Tweet at the Las Vegas Cinema Con.
Directed by Greta Gerwig (‘Lady Bird,’ ‘Little Women’), the movie has many anticipating that it may be well worth watching.
During a 2019 interview, Robbie shared her excitement to work with Gerwig on this challenging role.
“Right, it comes with a lot of baggage. And a lot of nostalgic connections. But with that come a lot of exciting ways to attack it. People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t,'” she said.
The movie is co-written by Gerwig and Noah Baumbach (‘Marriage Story’).
Producers include Robbie Brenner, the Executive Vice President and Executive Producer of Mattel Films, Margot Robbie, Julia Pistor (‘Dora and the Lost City of Gold’), Tom Ackerly (‘Promising Young Woman,’ ‘I, Tonya’), Joey McNamara (‘Promising Young Woman’), and more.
Production began earlier this year in London. ‘Barbie’ is the first announced announced deal coming out of Mattel’s newly established Mattel Films. Other projects in development include an undisclosed American Girl film, ‘Polly Pocket,’ ‘Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots,’ and ‘Monster High.’
Even though my daughters have outgrown their Barbie dolls, the choice to make this adaptation with a live action, all-star cast will appeal more to them at their age. They’re also fans of Greta Gerwig and her work on ‘Little Women.’ This new ‘Barbie’ movie will be one that we will be sure to watch.
