Since one nice family getaway we took this past year was to Rehoboth Beach, I wanted to share some festive fall family events in Delaware, where a day trip can offer a much-needed change of scenery as weather begins to change. With the start of fall comes a crop of fresh fun, including delightful festivals and a schedule brimming with activities at the state’s beaches. As summer slips over the horizon, it’s a time for end-of season farmer’s market deals, meter-free beach parking, and country hayrides.
Fall Festivals & Farmer’s Markets in Delaware
Visit the delightfully quirky Sea Witch Halloween & Fiddler’s Festival in Rehoboth Beach (Oct. 28-30). Featured in HGTV’s list of the “21 Great Fall Festivals,” the beloved Sea Witch Festival has been going strong in Rehoboth Beach for more than three decades. The streets along the seaside fill with hundreds of witches, monsters, zombies, and other characters at this family-friendly community event, which promises a spooky & spectacular October! Don’t miss the Costume Parade, Dog Costume Parade, magic shows, pony rides, Halloween-themed scavenger hunts, Broom-Tossing Contest, and lots of musical performances on the Bandstand!
Bridgeville Apple Scrapple Festival (Oct. 14-15) is Delaware’s unique annual celebration of agriculture, food and community. Thousands gather for carnival rides, games, the Little Miss Apple Scrapple Pageant, live entertainment, and plenty of apples, scrapple, and other tempting treats.
This is the time for some sensational outdoor adventures, especially the popular Fifer Orchards Fall Fun Fest, where the season’s sweet bounty is celebrated with food, farm tours, and a corn maze through early November. Check out the U-Pick Pumpkin and Apple Patch, U-Play area, and the Farm Store. On Saturdays, you can enjoy live music, tractor-train rides, baby farm animals and face painting.
Bethany Beach hosts Bonfires on the Beach each Friday in October. Marshmallows, roasting sticks, and glow bracelets are provided!
Everyone in the family will enjoy the Fall Fling at Hudson Fields in Milton (Oct. 1). You can shop over 70 local vendors in the fall market, bring the kids for inflatables and pumpkin bowling. Vote for your favorite scarecrow, and enjoy caramel apples, apple cider and other fall favorites!

Don’t miss a trip to a farmer’s market, which stay open through the end of October in Wilmington, Rehoboth Beach, Historic Lewes, and at Nassau Valley Vineyards.
